Jonathan Nugent, Arbicon’s Managing Director delivered a seminar to the Aston Services Group, focusing on construction contracts and how they are governed by the Construction Act, together with tips on procurement and payment rights as well as dealing with illegal and onerous clauses. Jonathan tailored the seminar to include real life examples of contracts Aston Services Group had been involved in, together with critiques on Aston’s own terms and those of the other parties. The participants gained valuable knowledge of what clauses to incorporate and those to look out for, together with an understanding on how contracts are formed, payment, adjudication rights and how late payment can be tackled with cost and interest recovery.

“The Arbicon training seminar delivered by Jonathan is a worthwhile investment. My Commercial Team learned a lot and it was quite an eye opener to see what rights we have on payment, adjudication and late payment, plus finding out about clauses we often see that are totally illegal. My Commercial Team and I are better placed now in agreeing contracts and what we would like incorporated or not. It was also interesting to understand the principle of the “battle of the forms”, which is the legal status of a contract where we do not sign. I would recommend the seminar to any construction subcontractor”.
